RAUSCHENBERG, Robert
Monogram 1955-9 Freestanding combine 42 x 64 x 64 1/2 in Moderna Museet, Stockholm |
"One of Rauschenberg's first and most famous combines
was entitled "Monogram" (1959) and consisted of an unlikely
set of materials: a stuffed angora goat, a tire, a police barrier, the
heel of a shoe, a tennis ball, and paint. This pioneering altered the
course of modern art. The idea of combining and of noticing combinations
of objects and images has remained at the core of Rauschenberg's work."

Burnt guitar, stuffed yak with tire.....Hmmmmmmm..... Which one could I play Stairway to Heaven on?...... - Art Collector While equivalent in many respects, I belive my combine of offal, scurf, guano, coprolits, excrement, stools, dung and ordure is superior to that of Mr. Rauschenberg. - Mr. Bandini In this piece, Rauschenberg is making the statement that... he is out of his !#%*ing mind! Demonstrating how excessive consumption of ethanol leads to... poor yardsale purchases. - D.R. a rule everyone should know: stuffed goat + tire = pornography - veggie girl |
